Did you know that students did not attend the Asylum Ave campus until 1936 even though the University of Saint Joseph was founded in 1932? In honor of Women’s History Month, read the Catholic Transcript newspaper clipping below from April 23, 1936, to learn about the campus’ newly constructed buildings designed by the Olmsted Brothers Firm. The building described in the article is today’s McDonough Hall.
Read “The Legacy of Women’s Colleges and Their Constructions: From Mount Holyoke College to the University of Saint Joseph,” from April 19, 2023, if you’d like to learn about the 1934-1936 construction of our campus through the lens of the environment and the institution’s history as an all-women’s college. Saint Joseph College only recently became the University of Saint Joseph in 2012 and did not become fully co-educational until 2018.
