USJ Honors Students Help Clean Elizabeth Park

Written by Isabella Rusate

Sunday, April 14, was practically a perfect day to be at Elizabeth Park. The weather was cool but not cold. There was a subtle warm breeze broken up by small sprinkles of rain. Tulips swayed in the breeze. Emerald leaves sparkled with dew. Dogwalkers strolled by trying to soak up the bits of sunshine retreating behind the clouds.

A handful of Honors students began their trek from campus to the park in the early afternoon, picking up trash along the way. We made our way through the gardens and the outskirts of the paths, occasionally having to reach deep into bushes and under trees. By the time we finished, multiple garbage bags were filled with half-empty wine bottles, pastel plastic streamers, paper, cigarette butts, and more.

Thank you to those who came out to help beautify the park, and thank you to the maintenance staff who gave us the beautiful succulents as a gift!
