Banter Bureau Advice Column: Hardworking and Unemployed

Dear Hardworking and Unemployed,

You wrote to us and asked, “How do I get an on campus job easily?” Unfortunately for you, I am not very familiar with on-campus jobs, though I’m sure there are plenty of resources available for you to find on the USJ website. I’ll leave the link to the student employment information on the MyUSJ page down below. A visit to the rez-life office should lend some direction along with a visit to the Mercy building. If you are close to any of your professors, you could ask them if they know of any openings on campus.

There may be flyers going up around campus seeking student employees, so keep an eye out for any of those! Make sure you update your cover letter and resume when the time comes to submit them. Additionally, a visit to the career center would do you some good. Now is the time in the semester to apply to on-campus jobs; early applications are a great way to get into a job. Whatever job you may find, make sure you’re able to balance your work schedule and your school schedule and try your hardest not to overwhelm yourself.

Lastly, if you’re interested, the Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is looking for a part-time Climate Action Advocate. The description for the position involves “working closely with CCAC CT staff, their host site supervisor, other AmeriCorps members, community partners, volunteers, and campus staff and students to help develop campus and community partnerships and coordinate activities that aim to improve at-risk ecosystems for underserved households and communities.” There’s also a position open with the CCAC for a Climate Action Energizer, which entails almost the same responsibilities. If you have more questions about these opportunities, you can email Sally Slovenski, whose contact information will be listed below!

Best of luck,

The Banter Bureau
