USJ’s Education Majors Need to Know About Aspiring Ed!
Written by Emily Gaudet
As a future educator, I have found The University of Saint Joseph’s Aspiring Educator (AE) program to be especially inspiring. With two AE events under my belt this semester, I already feel more confident in my place in USJ’s education track and in the resources that will be available to me when I start my teaching career.
As partners with the Connecticut Education Association, AE members get invited to many networking and connection events. Recently, there was a region-wide AE kickoff at Lyman Orchards. As soon as I sat down with my other club members, I felt as if I fit right in. During an icebreaker game of bingo, I was able to meet other aspiring educators which was an incredibly validating experience.
Oftentimes, when I tell others that I’m on track to become a teacher I receive incredulous looks of concern and bewilderment! While I know that teaching is not going to be a walk in the park, constantly being reminded of the difficult journey ahead gets old very quickly which was what made this AE kickoff so special. Surrounded by people who share my passion and commitment to education, I became more confident in my drive to pursue this goal and my ability to persevere through any trials that may lay ahead of me.
USJ’s Aspiring Educators club is always looking for new members, and can provide future teachers with amazing connections to educational professionals across the state. At my first Aspiring Educators meeting, I was greeted with incredible warmth that I’m sure will be repeated for any other potential member. We host workshops, guest speakers, and panels featuring experienced educators who share their insights and tips for success. These sessions will help any aspiring educator develop essential skills such as classroom management, lesson planning, and effective communication. Aspiring Educators organizes social events, team-building activities, and community service projects that make the club a lively and engaging place to be. For more information on joining, feel free to contact the president of the club, Katherine Kane, at [email protected] or DM us at usj.aec!
