Club Feature: The USJ’s Acapella Group: Song Birds

Written by Zoë Sepa

USJ has many different clubs and organizations available to students looking to become more involved within our vibrant community, one of those being USJ’s very own acapella group: Song Birds. Sitting down with Luke Alvarez, the leader of the group, we discussed why he wished to start the club, how it is going, and more interesting facts he wished to share.

Luke shared that initially, many of the beginning members of Song Birds had participated within USJ’s church choir together. However, the members of the choir wanted to have an outlet to be able to sing additional songs that they liked, but could not have been performed within their current setting. As a result, the choir members formed Song Birds in order to create that outlet, providing its members with the freedom to sing, arrange, and perform songs of their choosing together.

Song Birds currently have about 9-10 consistent members of their club, and are striving towards the goal of having a planned show this semester with about 6 songs. The Song Birds also plan karaoke events on occasion for their members, and the USJ community as a whole, including an event that took place last semester, and they look forward to planning another event soon!

If you feel that Song Birds is a community you would like to be a part of and you wish to join, feel free to email Luke Alvarez at: [email protected]. Stay tuned for some of the fun events the Song Birds have in store this semester!
